A framework of the investigation on the crustal movement in central Nepal is given by means of making summit level maps and measuring of the river terrace deformation along the Kali Gandaki river. The Midlands and Mahabharat Range have been uplifted up to 1,000 – 2,000 m in altitude for recent several million years and may still continue up to present. I tis suggested that the crustal movement is due to the up-warping of the Ranges rather than the vertical block movement, because the altitudinal discontinuity of summit levels does not coincide with the active faults.
