Disaster risk reduction: a “Sangam” of disciplines
Second Presentation
The seminar will focus on evolution of the disaster risk reduction as a discipline, with incorporation / contribution / application of different core disciplines in science, humanities, urban planning, architecture and engineering. Over last 30 years, the discipline has drawn many younger professionals, and have contributed significantly in saving people’s lives and properties. This talk will focus on historical evolution as well as future potential scope and contribution in the field of disaster risk reduction.

Rajib Shaw is a professor in Graduate School of Media and Governance of Keio University, Japan. He is co-founder of a Delhi based social entrepreneur startup, Resilience Innovation Knowledge Academy (RIKA), and chair of the board of two Japanese non-government agencies: SEEDS Asia and CWS Japan. He is the Co-chair of the Asia Pacific Science Technology Academic Advisory Group (APSTAAG), and CLA for IPCC’s 6th Assessment Report.
