    IDDR Symposium, 2015

    Call for Participation

The International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR, formerly ISDR) symposium is one of the activities NGS has been observing regularly each year in collaboration with its partner organizations since decades ago. The IDDR is a day to celebrate how people and communities are reducing their exposure to disasters and raising awareness about the importance of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). The UN designated date to celebrate the IDDR is October 13th, but we have decided to observe the event this year on October 15th because October 13th is GHATASTHAPANA, the first day of Dashain festival. The theme of the 2015 IDDR is Knowledge for Life with focus on the use of traditional, indigenous and local knowledge which complement modern science and add to an individual’s and societies’ resilience. In this context, NGS would like to request its members to send us relevant abstracts and give presentations on the IDDR symposium, and share your valuable knowledge and experience to raise awareness and reduce our exposure to disasters.  Given the event is taking place in the aftermath of 2015 Gorkha Earthquake, we would suggest to focus your paper on earthquake and earthquake-induced disasters. But papers on other areas of disaster are also welcome. At this end, please note the timeline and venue below:

Abstract submission deadline: October 12, 2015

Workshop day: Thursday, October 15, 2015

Let us make IDDR-2015 a great day!

Important: If the ongoing fuel crisis continues till October 14, we will be forced to postpond the symposium! Hope that it will not happen.
