Abstract

Based on the measurements and observations in the field and laboratory, the studies of channel morphology of the Kali Gandaki and the Narayani rivers draining out of central Nepal were carried in detail. In order to make clear the formation of channel morphology such as longitudinal profile and channel forms, the relationship between the channel morphology, bed materials and hydraulic conditions were analysed. The results are summarized in Fig. 12, they suggest that the channel morphology along most of the courses is to be a graded river at the present river regime and sediment yields, and that the longitudinal profile having seven segments on a semi-log paper has been roughly formed with the upheaval of the Great Himalayan and the Mahabharat Ranges and finally has been partially adjusted to the changes of river regime and sediment yields after the Last Glacial period.
